Partition

A partition of $[a,b]$ is a finite collection of points in $[a,b]$ s.t:

• One of the endpoints is $a$ and another endpoint is $b$
• The union of all subintervals is equal to $[a,b]$

Notation

$P=\{x_i{\}}_{i=0}^n$

Examples

If $I=[0,1]$, then, $P=\{0,\frac{1}{5},\frac{1}{2},1\}$ is a partition of $[0,1]$

It essentially breaks down an interval into sub-intervals
