A display mode that uses a backlight and crystals to generate images.

  1. DC current runs through an Inverter
  2. Inverter sends AC current runs to LED or CCFL backlight
  3. Tiny liquid crystals arranged in a grid act as a shutter to enable light to pass through
  4. Tiny transistors change subpixel status on translucent subpixel sheets to provide different colors

Backlight

To create the image, Inverters convert DC power into AC power to be used by the backlight powered by LED or CCFL

Edge Backlighting

Putting backlight LED’s only on the edges of the monitor. The center’s color is a little bit dimmer

Direct Backlighting

Putting a bank of LEDs across the entire monitor back. Uniform color, but a bit more expensive
