- Mean. average = sum/num entries
- Median. middle value of an ordered set. if there is an even number of data points, the median is the average between the 2 middle values. its possible for median to not be included in the original dataset.
- Mode. most frequent value. possible to have no mode, one mode, two mode, etc…
Outliers
Data entire that really skew the central tendencies. This would be the case where you may have a mean that is entirely offset of where the true centre lies.
In a symmetric distribution, such as a uniform distribution, you should see a bell curve. the mean, median and mode will be equal.
In a non-symmetric or skewed distribution, the mean, median and mode will differ. Skewed Distribution
Valid Data
How do we determine which average is the valid one?
If outliers were removed, mean would be affected the most.
