Swelling in Li-Ion and LiPo batteries is caused by:

• Overcharging
• Fast discharging
• Blunt damage to battery
• High or Low temperatures

Avoiding Swelling

1. Keep battery temperature within 32${}^{o}F$ and 95${}^{o}F$
2. Keep battery charged around 70-80%
3. Never let battery drain to 0%

Rupturing lithium batteries will cause toxic chemicals and combustions.
