Describe Situation Where You Learned Something New Quickly
I tried hardware development coming in with no prior experience in any past hardware projects. I decided I wanted to build a custom keyboard as I had been seeing many rust and emacs programmers recommend the ergonomic builds. I had to do extensive research into the builds that I wanted to try out, but still ended up purchasing a few parts that were incompatible. The reason why there was a mismatch was because I was combining choices I made between different guides. Hardware development is very different from software development, you cannot easily mix and match solutions into your project without expecting some conflicts. I ended up finding this resource that ended up guiding me through essential theory in keyboard making (https://deskthority.net) which ended up saving me a lot of future headaches and led me to build the corne-GLP keyboard. During this I also sifted through a electrical engineering textbook and plan to build a simple NAND gate adder in the future.
You can bring any fictional character to brainstorm with you during UofTHacks. Who would you bring, and how would they inspire your approach?
Dr Hannibal Lecter from the silence of the lambs. He is a charming and enthusiastic and most-importantly a problem-solver. He has been shown to have a vast array of knowledge in math, physics, philosophy, and if he doesn’t already know javascrapt, im sure he can learn it pretty quickly. He also has 6 fingers so he can type-up ideas and prototypes much faster than the average person. Maybe even after the hackathon he can invite us to eat at his place
What is important for you to see at UofTHacks? Do you have any suggestions for games, workshops, and other activities?
I would love some workshops on blockchain development and software security. Networking with 1Password is a personal goal of mine but I plan to use this opportunity to meet and learn about different projects and from mentors.
