Responsibilities

  1. Accept the patient without discrimination
  2. Continue to provide services until these services are no longer required
  3. Act according to your Conscience
  4. Inform the patient when moral commitments may influence your recommendation of a procedure
  5. Communicate information accurately and honestly
  6. Recommend evidence-based treatment whenever possible
  7. Limit treatment of yourself, or other cases when another physician is not available
  8. Provide whatever assistance you can to a person who needs emergency care
  9. Ensure any research you do is evaluated both scientifically and ethically
  10. Never participate or condone Torture
  11. Empower the patient to make informed decisions with their health
  12. Respect decisions of competent patient to accept or reject and recommended assessment
  13. Recognize the maturity of a minor’s right to consent to treatment or care
  14. Accommodate patient with cognitive impairments to participate
  15. Respect values and intentions of patients deemed incompetent
  16. When intentions of incompetent patient are unknown, act in patient’s best interests
  17. Respect the patient’s reasonable request for a second option
