Non-Cognitivism

When you say a moral statement, you don’t describe that its true you feel it, rather you show that you have this preference. For example:

  • I eat a tub of ice-cream. I don’t explicitly tell you I like it, but you can infer that I do because I am showing non-verbally, that I like it
  • I say that stealing is immoral. I don’t explicitly tell you that I belive this fact, but you can infer that I believe it, because I am showing you my attitudes.

Subjectivisim

You make a factual claim about your attitudes. Subjectivism is a Cognitivists view. When you make a moral statement, you are making a claim about the fact of your approval. E.g:

  • “Killing is wrong” means that it is true that I disprove of murder
